Buford City Schools remains Georgia's No. 1 school district for the 12th consecutive year, with a substantial national climb adding to its latest recognition. In Niche's 2027 Best School Districts rankings, Buford rose from No. 16 to No. 6 in the United States.
The results follow a year of accomplishments by students and staff across academics, athletics and the arts, including achievements at the national championship level. Together, those efforts reflect the breadth of opportunity available to Buford students and the expectations that connect the district's programs.
Niche evaluates school districts using factors that include academics, teachers, college readiness, student experiences and extracurricular opportunities. Buford's continued success in those rankings extends beyond any single program or graduating class, sustained by the contributions of educators, students and families over time.
That continuity also reaches the district's leadership. Board of Education Chairman Phillip Beard is beginning his 52nd year of service on the board. He credited the recognition to teachers' dedication, students' willingness to meet high expectations, parents' involvement and the community's longstanding investment in its schools.
For Superintendent Dr. Amy Chafin, the latest rankings provide both a reason to celebrate and a responsibility to keep improving. Her focus remains on developing staff, maintaining a disciplined culture and expanding what students can achieve. Following a particularly successful year, she emphasized the need to pursue new opportunities rather than become comfortable with past results.
The move into the nation's top six gives Buford another milestone alongside its 12-year run atop Georgia's rankings. Behind both distinctions is the daily work taking place throughout the district, from classroom instruction to practices, rehearsals and the support students receive at home. Continuing to strengthen that experience remains Buford's priority.
