Gerald McQuaig Field serves as the home of Buford baseball and stands as a proud reflection of the program’s history, tradition, and standard of excellence. Named in honor of former Buford High School baseball coach Gerald McQuaig, the field connects generations of Wolves baseball while providing today’s student-athletes with a premier place to compete, train, and represent Buford.
The facility features a FieldTurf DoublePlay surface made up of two types of turf designed to mimic the speed and feel of a traditional grass baseball field. The pitching mound is constructed with DuraPitch Mound Clay, a professional-grade surface commonly used in Major League Baseball, giving players a high-quality mound for competition and daily preparation. Gerald McQuaig Field also includes a modern public address system and specialized LED lighting designed specifically for sports fields, creating a polished game day setting for players, coaches, families, and fans.
The field’s history is woven into the story of Buford baseball. During the official opening ceremony for the upgraded field, Derek Perkins, a 1993 Buford High School graduate, threw the game ball from the first-ever win at Gerald McQuaig Field, a game in which he was the winning pitcher. A second ceremonial pitch was thrown by Donnie McQuaig, son of Gerald McQuaig, commemorating the legacy of the coach whose name the field proudly carries.
From daily work to varsity competition, Gerald McQuaig Field gives Buford baseball a first-class home that reflects the city’s continued investment in its student-athletes and the community’s pride in Wolves athletics. It stands as both a showcase facility and a tribute to the people and moments that helped shape Buford baseball.
