BUFORD, Ga. — Buford responded to an opening-round loss with consecutive shutouts Saturday, defeating Archer and Decatur to capture the consolation championship at the third annual Buford Kickoff Classic.
The Wolves began the tournament with a 31-12 loss to Carrollton in the championship bracket. Rather than allowing the result to define their day, they regrouped and controlled both of their remaining contests.
Buford blanked Archer 21-0 in its first consolation game, earning a place in the bracket final against Decatur. The defense delivered another scoreless performance there, while the offense produced a 25-0 victory to secure the consolation title.
The Wolves outscored their final two opponents 46-0 and finished the tournament 2-1. Buford improved to 4-2 overall, with three of its four victories coming by shutout.
Buford returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 29, in Watkinsville. The Wolves will face Oconee County at 5:30 p.m. before meeting Lakeside at 6:30 p.m.
