BUFORD, Ga. — Buford stayed unbeaten in Region 8-7A with a 10-2, five-inning victory over Collins Hill on Tuesday night at the Buford Softball Complex.

The Wolves answered an early Collins Hill run by scoring six times across their first two trips to the plate. Brooklyn Atha powered the offense with three extra-base hits and five RBIs, while Carsyn Hunter and Kennedy Townsend combined to limit the Eagles to four hits.

Collins Hill opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Piper Holden delivered an RBI single. Buford responded immediately.

Janie Goldin started the bottom half with a single before Ansley Kehren brought her home with a hit down the right-field line. Kehren later scored when Taylor Sawyer worked a bases-loaded walk, giving the Wolves a 2-1 advantage.

Buford created separation in the second inning. Ella Rackley and Janie Goldin reached ahead of Atha, who launched a three-run home run to left field for her fifth homer of the season. Kehren then reached on an error and came all the way around to score, extending the lead to 6-1.

The Wolves continued applying pressure in the third. Rackley and Goldin opened the inning with walks, and Atha drove both home with a triple to left-center. L.G. Goldin followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Atha and pushed the margin to 9-1.

Collins Hill scored an unearned run in the top of the third, but the Eagles did not produce another baserunner after that inning.

Hunter earned the win in her third start of the season. The freshman allowed four hits and two runs, one earned, over three innings to improve to 3-0.

Townsend took over in the fourth and retired all six batters she faced. The senior struck out two during two perfect relief innings.

Atha opened the bottom of the fifth with her second triple of the game. Two batters later, L.G. Goldin drove a triple over the left fielder's head, bringing Atha home with the run that ended the game.

Atha finished 3-for-4 with a home run, two triples, five RBIs and three runs scored. L.G. Goldin recorded a triple, two walks, a sacrifice fly, two RBIs and a stolen base. Kehren went 1-for-3 with an RBI, two runs and two stolen bases.

Buford also demonstrated patience and aggressiveness throughout the game. The Wolves drew 10 walks and stole eight bases, with Janie Goldin, Rackley and Sawyer collecting two steals apiece.

The victory improved Buford to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in Region 8-7A. The Wolves continue region play at Mill Creek on Thursday, Sept. 3. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
