BUFORD, Ga. — Buford football returns to the road Friday, Sept. 18, traveling to Grayson for its final non-region matchup before region play begins. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Grayson High School, with television coverage on GPB.

The Wolves enter at 3-0 after wins over Gainesville, Mallard Creek and Miami Central, outscoring their opponents 98-33. Friday offers a chance to extend Buford's winning streak to 19 games and head into next week's region opener unbeaten.

Buford's defense has been especially strong after halftime, holding both Mallard Creek and Miami Central scoreless over the final two quarters. Last Thursday, that finish helped the Wolves turn a halftime tie into an 18-7 victory over Miami Central at Phillip Beard Stadium.

A 92-yard touchdown drive put Buford ahead, and the defense took it from there. Beck Brosius stopped a fourth-and-2 play in the backfield, while Ethan Hauser and Brendon Davis later combined for a fourth-down sack. Evan Griffeth added a 35-yard field goal to give the Wolves an 11-point cushion.

Ashton Thomas finished with four receptions for 45 yards, and Jameer Cantrell rushed for 55 yards on seven carries. A week earlier at Mallard Creek, Cantrell returned two fumbles for touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass, helping Buford earn a 41-7 road win.

Grayson enters at 2-2 after consecutive road victories over Langston Hughes, 22-3, and Brunswick, 44-31. The Rams will play at home for the first time this season, giving the Wolves another test away from Buford.

Selected as the MaxPreps Game of the Week, Friday's contest brings together the programs that won Georgia's highest-classification state title in each of the past two seasons. Buford claimed the championship in 2025, following Grayson's title in 2024.

Buford opens Region 8-7A play at Seckinger on Friday, Sept. 25.
