BUFORD, Ga. — Buford collected 14 hits and defeated Dacula 14-6 in six innings Thursday at the Buford Softball Complex, moving into first place in the Region 8-7A standings.

The Wolves improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in region play.

Brooklyn Atha launched a two-run home run in the first inning, and Taylor Sawyer added a two-run homer as Buford built an early 5-1 lead. The Wolves later broke the game open with three consecutive doubles from Ella Pierce Hensley, Ansley Kehren and Lydia Hamrick.

Dacula pulled within five runs in the sixth, but Kennedy Townsend entered with the bases loaded and recorded two outs to end the threat. Mackenzie Fritsch then drew a bases-loaded walk before Janie Goldin delivered a two-run single to complete the run-rule victory.

Carsyn Hunter earned the win in relief and improved to 2-0.
