Wolves Claim Fifth Straight Region Title With 67-0 Victory

Buford forces five turnovers and extends its winning streak to 24 games with a shutout of Discovery.

BUFORD, Ga. — Another region championship is headed to Buford, and the Wolves left little doubt on the night they secured it.

Buford overwhelmed Discovery 67-0 on Friday at Phillip Beard Stadium, capturing its fifth consecutive region title and extending its winning streak to 24 games. The defending state champions also secured a home game in the opening round of the GHSA state playoffs.

The Wolves took control with a defense that repeatedly gave their offense opportunities. After Discovery picked up an early first down, Eli Davenport recovered a fumble and returned it to the Titans' 5-yard line. Seven Rashad finished the short possession with the game's opening touchdown.

That sequence set the pace for the rest of the half. Buford forced five turnovers on the night, and five different Wolves scored before intermission. Five of the team's six first-half touchdown drives lasted three plays or fewer.

D.J. Hunter threw three touchdown passes, including two to Rashad, as Buford built a lead that allowed its reserves to take over early. Even penalties offered Discovery little relief. Twice in the first half, the Wolves had long touchdowns erased by holding calls, then scored on the next play.

Brandon Gwin kept the offense moving after entering in relief of Hunter. He connected with Braylon Williams for a 14-yard touchdown and added scoring passes to Sheddrick Diggs and Wyatt Etheridge in the second half.

With Buford's starters finished by halftime, the Wolves continued to control possession and protect the shutout. One third-quarter scoring drive consumed roughly eight minutes of the running clock, ending with Gwin finding Diggs on a screen.

Discovery managed only three offensive possessions after halftime as Buford's defense maintained its pressure. Roland Bradley supplied the final touchdown with just over two minutes remaining.

The performance gave the Wolves another championship milestone while providing valuable playing time throughout the roster as the postseason approaches.

Buford returns to Phillip Beard Stadium on Friday, Nov. 6, to host Central Gwinnett.
