BUFORD, Ga. — Dexter McCleon Jr. has made his college choice. The Buford junior committed to LSU on Thursday, Oct. 22, adding another milestone to a baseball career that has already taken him onto the national stage.

A member of the Class of 2028, McCleon brings versatility as an outfielder and right-handed pitcher. His combination of speed, power and arm strength has drawn attention throughout his development, with Perfect Game recording a 6.41-second 60-yard dash and a fastball reaching 98 mph.

Those measurements tell part of the story. McCleon has also gained experience alongside some of the country's leading young players through USA Baseball and Perfect Game events. He represented the United States on the 2024 15U National Team and participated in USA Baseball's 2025 16U/17U National Team Development Program.

His recognition continued in July, when McCleon and Buford teammate Lio Garcia were announced as selections for the Junior National Roster at the 2026 Perfect Game All-Star Game. The Wolves accounted for two of the three Georgia players named to that roster.

Perfect Game also identifies McCleon as a four-time Select Festival athlete, reflecting a record of recognition that began well before his college decision.

The LSU commitment gives McCleon a destination beyond high school as he continues his development at Buford, with two spring seasons remaining before his scheduled graduation in 2028.
