Buford Blanks Collins Hill 43-0 for 22nd Straight Win

The Wolves improve to 7-0 with a Homecoming shutout ahead of a region showdown at Mill Creek.

BUFORD — Buford delivered a 43-0 Homecoming shutout of Collins Hill at Philip Beard Stadium, earning its 22nd consecutive victory and setting up a meeting between the region's two remaining unbeaten teams in league play.

The Wolves improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the region. Through those three region games, Buford has outscored its opponents 149-7. A trip to Mill Creek now offers an opportunity to take sole possession of the region lead.

Against Collins Hill, Buford found contributions across its lineup. Jameer Cantrell scored on offense and defense, quarterback D.J. Hunter accounted for touchdowns through the air and on the ground, and defensive tackle Jalen Brewster scored his first two touchdowns as a Wolf.

Buford had to work through a scoreless opening quarter before those opportunities developed. Collins Hill intercepted the Wolves' first possession and held them to 69 yards on 19 first-quarter snaps. A forced fumble late in the period, however, gave Buford a short field. Cantrell had made a touchdown-saving tackle on the preceding play.

Brewster entered in a goal-line package and finished the ensuing possession with a 2-yard touchdown run less than a minute into the second quarter. Later, facing third-and-1, Buford turned to Cantrell, who broke a tackle and went 70 yards for a touchdown. Hunter added a 29-yard scoring scramble with 32 seconds left in the half, completing a 19-point quarter that sent the Wolves into the break in control.

Hunter finished 14 of 22 passing for 206 yards. Ashton Thomas caught five passes for 73 yards, while Seven Rashad contributed 64 receiving yards. Cantrell led the rushing effort with 111 yards on nine carries.

The Wolves added to their lead in the third quarter when Cantrell intercepted a pass and returned it 26 yards for a touchdown. On Buford's next possession, Hunter found Owen Muraski for another score. Brewster supplied the final touchdown with his second rushing score early in the fourth quarter.

Collins Hill quarterback Makyree Cross completed 11 of 26 passes for 132 yards, with Maddox Reneau accounting for 74 receiving yards, but the Eagles never reached the scoreboard.

Buford now turns its attention to Mill Creek, carrying an unbeaten record and a chance to move ahead of the only other team without a region loss.
