Softball Sweeps Rockdale County, Advances to Sweet 16

LG Goldin homers twice as the Wolves win 17-0 and 16-0 to improve to 24-3.

BUFORD, Ga. — Buford left little unsettled in its first-round state playoff series Wednesday, beating Rockdale County 17-0 and 16-0 at the Buford Softball Complex to advance to the Sweet 16.

The Wolves scored 11 runs in the first inning of each game and finished both victories in three innings. Now 24-3, Buford awaits the winner of the Seckinger-Hillgrove series, scheduled to conclude Thursday, Oct. 15.

LG Goldin and Ansley Kehren helped put the opener away early. Goldin hit a two-run home run and a two-run triple in the first inning, finishing 2-for-2 with four RBIs. Kehren also went 2-for-2, delivering a triple and a double as Buford built its 11-0 lead.

Hayden Halper's two-run double and Ella Rackley's three-run triple highlighted a six-run second inning. Taylor Jackson handled the rest, allowing one hit and striking out six in a complete-game shutout to improve to 9-2.

Buford's patience set the pace in Game 2. The Wolves turned nine first-inning walks into 11 runs without a hit, then added four runs in the second. Lydia Hamrick doubled and scored on Kami Vendola's single, while Kehren contributed an RBI double.

Goldin capped the scoring with a solo home run to center field in the third, her ninth of the season and second of the afternoon.

Carsyn Hunter earned the win with a scoreless opening inning, moving to 5-0. Norah Cook struck out the side in the second, and Kennedy Townsend finished the shutout in the third to complete the sweep.
