BUFORD, Ga. — Buford volleyball's postseason begins on the road Saturday, October 17, when the Wolves visit Northgate for the first round of the GHSA Class 7A state tournament. The match is scheduled for noon in Newnan, with the winner advancing to the Sweet 16.

Buford enters the matchup at 24–12 in GHSA's published results. The Wolves sit No. 16 in the association's Class 7A Post Season Rankings with a PSR score of 0.60247. Northgate is listed at 17–19 and No. 25, with a score of 0.55397.

The Wolves built their season against a schedule that included North Forsyth, Blessed Trinity, Woodward Academy and North Gwinnett. Their victories include wins over North Oconee, Kell and Parkview, along with straight-set region wins over Collins Hill, Discovery and Dacula. Saturday presents an opportunity to carry that experience into a new stage of the season.

Northgate brings its own collection of notable results into the first round, including victories over Alpharetta, Creekview, Denmark and Milton. The Vikings also defeated East Coweta and Carrollton, and their most recent result listed by GHSA is a 2–0 win over Westlake on October 7.

Although Buford holds the higher PSR position, those rankings do not translate directly to bracket placement. GHSA's formula weighs a team's winning percentage alongside the records of its opponents and its opponents' opponents, while region champions receive guaranteed home playoff matches.

For the Wolves, the immediate task is earning another match. A victory Saturday would send Buford into the second round, scheduled for October 20–21. The quarterfinals follow October 24, with the semifinals October 27–28 and state championship matches October 29 and 31 at LakePoint Sports Center in Cartersville.
